WHAT TREATMENTS DOES MATTHEW OFFER?
He offers a range of treatments which include:
FOOT MANIPULATION THERAPY (FMT)
Podiatrist Matthew Rimmer has undergone extensive training in Foot Mobilisation and Manipulation Techniques. Trained by world renowned expert in this field,Ted Jedynak and his team at the Foot and Leg Centre in Adelaide Matthew is now able to offer an alternative approach which can mean freedom from orthotics.
This type of therapy targets joints of the foot and ankle, which may be stiff, poorly aligned or dysfunctional .Via a series of hands-on treatment sessions in conjunction with a simple, structured exercise program huge improvements can be made to comfort and mobility. This therapy can be used to help treat several debilitating conditions including: Heel pain, Bunion pain, Midfoot arthritis and ankle pain to name just a few.
DIABETIC FOOT ASSESSMENTS
Diabetes can have severe consequences for the feet if poorly controlled. Matthew conducts diabetic foot assessments which include the following:
- A thorough visual examination of the feet.
- Nerve and muscle testing using special instruments.
- A comprehensive assessment of the patient’s lower limb circulation using a Doppler ultrasound machine to listen to the arteries, check arterial blood pressures and check the blood flow to the feet.
- Gait analysis to assess whether there are any issues with walking that can be improved with footwear and/or orthotics.
The assessments are non-invasive and painless and they are very useful in predicting problems and assessing how at risk the patient is of developing diabetic foot problems. Assessments are conducted at least every 12 months and a full report is sent to your Doctor (G.P).
TREATMENT FOR GENERAL FOOT PROBLEMS (CHIROPODY TREATMENT)
These can include such things as ingrown toe nails, as well as a range of toe-nail disorders including thickened and fungal nails. Matthew can administer Local Anaesthesia, in order to remove ingrown toe nails and cure the problem if conservative treatment is ineffective. Other general treatments can be offered for people who suffer from corns, hard/cracked skin (calluses) and plantar warts.
These can be used to treat conditions such as Pes Planus (flat feet), plantar fasciitis( heel spurs), and other types of heel pain, forefoot problems such as neuromas and bursitis, as well as Achilles tendonopathies, knee pain and even lower back pain.
SHOE ADVICE AND MODIFICATIONS
Good footwear is vital in order to keep the feet in good condition. Matthew is trained to give you comprehensive advice on the best type of footwear for your feet and he can also make in-shoe modifications if needed to improve comfort and prevent foot problems. He can also recommend the most appropriate style of footwear for your needs whether it is for work, sport or recreation.
DIRECT REFERRAL FOR FOOT AND ANKLE X-RAY AND ULTRASOUND, (WHICH IS OFTEN BULK BILLED)
Sometimes if a patient presents with foot and/or ankle pain it may be necessary to refer the patient for medical imaging to confirm a diagnosis. Matthew can refer directly for x-rays and ultrasound. A copy of the report can be sent to your G.P if required.
CHILDREN’S FOOT PROBLEMS
These can include in-toed/out-toed gait, adolescent heel pain and knee pain as well as all the above problems.
